Nach der Begrüßung am Haupteingang wurden wir in einen Raum geführt, wo es von unserer Ansprechpartnerin Frau Harms und drei Auszubildenden einen kleinen Einführungsvortrag gab. In diesem Vortrag lernten wir etwas über das Institut und er war interaktiv gestaltet, sodass wir alle uns bewegen mussten und „mitwirken“ konnten. Nach dem Vortrag bildeten wir kleine Gruppen, in denen wir ein Zuordnungsspiel zur Herstellung eines Produkts spielten. Ziel war es Fachbegriffe, Beschreibungstexte und Abbildungen in die richtige Reihenfolge zu bringen. Nachdem alle Gruppen dieses Spiel erfolgreich abgeschlossen hatten, wurde unsere große Gruppe von 17 Schüler*innen in zwei Gruppen aufgeteilt. Während zwei Auszubildende der einen Gruppe die Reinräume zeigten, in denen Mikrochips hergestellt werden, blieb die zweite Gruppe im Raum mit Frau Harms und der dritten Auszubildenden. Im Raum konnten die Schüler*innen verschiedene Aktionen ausüben. Wir haben uns die „Schutzanzüge“ angezogen, die auch die Wissenschaftler*innen in den Reinräumen tragen müssen und es gab zwei Geschicklichkeitsspiele. Bei einem musste man ein bestimmtes Bauteil so hoch stapeln, ohne dass der Turm umfällt und beim anderen musste man mit einer Pinzette einen sehr dünnen Golddraht in ein winziges Loch einfädeln. Nachdem die erste Gruppe von ihrem Rundgang zurückkam, wurden die Rollen getauscht, sodass die zweite Gruppe den Rundgang machte und die erste Gruppe die Geschicklichkeitsspiele spielte. Das Institut beschäftigt um die 380 Mitarbeiter*innen, von denen ca. 2/3 forschende Wissenschaftler*innen sind und 8-12 Auszubildende. Gegründet wurde es am 1. Januar 1992.
